Overview
Goals
Build a database for user trial and develop a scanner app for measuring body sizes under any circumstances.
Build a database for user trial and develop a scanner app for measuring body sizes under any circumstances.
Challenge
Currently, the participants of user trials are recruited through Google Forms and are used to it. It would be a massive change cost for users to transform into the new system. As for the technical aspect, we need to implement the scanner precision and ensure that users can interact seamlessly with the mobile interface.

Outcome
The scanner app was launched on the App Store and helps designers and users to measure their head sizes, and researchers further analyze data on the database website to complete the loop of user trial recruiting circle.

Why Do We Need Xperience?
User researchers at Logi send surveys to recruit participants to gather data; however, the results of various surveys are customized and stored in diverse databases. Without a central database, researchers must target users from scratch and slow down their research process.
In addition, during the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers could not measure users' head or ear sizes in person. Hence, they need a precise solution for users to scan their body dimensions.

Personas
The four user personas specify the top 3 requirements of Xperience: Database Management, User Data Visualization, and Scanner Mobile App.

Information Architecture
The whole system is divided into two parts. The Xperience website stores survey data for researchers to manage. On the other hand, The mobile app allows users and researchers to scan body dimensions and save data to the database.

User Story
As a researcher, I would like to find candidates meeting the target user trial criteria.
As a participant, I would like to measure my head/ear dimensions using my iPhone anywhere, anytime, instead of making an appointment with the UX researcher to avoid risks in meeting physically.
An Omnipotent User Trial Hub
Restructure the User Database
We combined the user database by users instead of projects and resolved the pain points that researchers cannot access the existing user data. The new user database includes data from the gaming experience, body dimensions, demographics, etc., allowing different research teams to recruit participants from one database.

Filter Data by Normal Distribution
A product design team must create products that fit most people's dimensions. We add the Normal Distribution criteria into the system considering the research method. Researchers can set each standard for their research purpose and then apply it to the database, easily filtering out the target users capable of user trials.

DIY Scanner with Lidar Method
We apply the iPhone Pro Lidar sensor to scan designated measuring points, such as the pupil, the center of the ear, and the top of the head. With guidance hints and auxiliary lines on the interface, users can cross technical barriers to measuring their head sizes only with help from families and friends.

Iterations
Integrated the Survey Management into Xperience
Although we have established a complete user database, the survey source is not built into this system. Therefore, user researchers cannot track the status of the survey in the system; they must monitor the results in Google Forms at the same time.
We added the questionnaire sending and receiving process to the system, allowing user researchers to send questionnaires from this Xperience. Participants can only open the questionnaire from this hub and set the questionnaire status in the system to help UX researchers manage questionnaires more easily.

Redesign Operation of Measurement
According to feedback from user testing results, we discovered that measuring T-V Length (the distance perpendicular to the top of the head between the pupil and ear) was difficult for users. This was because they had to stabilize the device with one hand and drag the auxiliary line to the top of the head with the other hand.
To make the process smooth, we redesigned the operation. Simply clicking the top point of the head to target the length helps the user reduce the effort needed to stabilize the device. This allows users to focus more on aiming overhead and ensuring the scanner does not lean.

Reflections
I designed both the web page and the mobile application interface for this project. Thanks to the efforts and assistance of the development team, the entire system was successfully launched, integrating the efficiency of user testing recruitment.
The most important lesson I learned during the process was not to do redundant jobs. If a complete system or software is in use, we should not develop similar software based on user requirements. Instead, we should understand the pain points in-depth and explore real solutions to the problems. For example, our users have been using Google Forms to collect questionnaires but lack a database for analyzing big data and customized filtering criteria. Therefore, we do not need to redesign the questionnaire platform; we only need to improve the database function.

Aesthetics are pleasing, but the priority of system design is to focus on user experience. The designer should evaluate the user needs of novel UI with the development team to strike a balance and keep it within the scope.

The Figma file is the most vital asset for the designer. A well-organized rule should be applied to limit access for the team and other stakeholders.

Even though encountering an unfamiliar project, as a designer, I will open my mind to ask and explore any knowledge beyond my limitations.
